VISX Wins FDA Approval for New Laser Surgery
May 26, 2003
The Wall Street Journal reported the government approval of a new,
more precise laser vision-correction procedure. There are now two firms
approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for wavefront-guided
surgery, which has consistently been proven to give patients better
vision with lower chances for side effects than other techniques.
The procedure, commonly referred to as “custom LASIK,” creates
precise, individualized measurements of the imperfections in a patient’s
eyes. Clinical data has shown improvements over past LASIK techniques:
98% of “custom LASIK” patients are corrected to 20/20 vision
after surgery.
